We got married at the Xara Lodge, Malta on the 1st of May 2022. Charles proposed with a wedding bouquet instead of a ring way back in July 2020. It was a really romantic moment and he included flowers that he was growing in the bouquet he proposed with.
Our wedding planning stage
A few weeks later we started planning our wedding. We employed the services of a wedding planner – Sarah Young.
On our first meeting , we told her that as flower growers and florists, we wanted our wedding to feel like a flower festiva. This is why she suggested we book the Xara Lodge as a venue. We are very happy we did. Not only was the food amazing but the service was great too.
The place is literally built as a wedding venue. This made our life easier since it has hanging points, the correct lighting, and everything we required to make our life a lot easier when setting up the flowers.
You can imagine that if you are the bride and groom yourself the last thing you want to worry about is a complicated setup process. Keep in mind that having these in place will also reduce the price your vendors will charge as it makes their life easier.
The Church
We then booked our church – we got married at the Attard Parish church Be aware that they only give you 30 min setup time.
So my advice is to make sure you check this well with the parish priest when booking your wedding as again this will not only increase your costs but will make your wedding more stressful.
Wedding floral design
When we designed our wedding – we designed it with our relationship story in Mind. We Started with a large heart filled with roses. This is something you might want to discuss with your wedding florist to help them design your wedding.
We had seen something similar in Holland on our first trip together as a couple and Charles always mentioned that if he ever got married he wanted to have something similar in his wedding.
Keeping in mind that Maltese weather is hot and that we needed to prepare this a couple of days in advance since it was our own wedding we constructed a structure with an automated watering system to keep the roses fresh. This system is now available for rent for other weddings. So get in touch if you would like this for your wedding.
The Lobby
Once you enter Xara Lodge you will find a massive lobby – they have a hanging artificial flower chandelier which I absolutely did not like. You can ask them to remove that and it’s the perfect place for you to have a showstopping centerpiece. This is what we did – this piece represented how our relationship blossomed, grew, and flourished. The lanterns around it are decorations you can also rent from us – we have several lanterns available. You can also hang your cake here or have a fresh or dry flower hanging installation thanks to the hanging points.
The Main room contained our wedding cake which was 7-tier, adorned with flowers, and sat on top of a fresh flower tablecloth. We also had 4 pillars of flowers around the room and Floral candelabra as family table centerpieces. The room is big and well-lit – make sure to design your decor wisely. You can also hang something here like a fresh flower chandelier as they have another hanging point here.
Finally, under the marquee tent, we set up a dried flower installation that is bold, colorful, and sustainable and represented our future together as a couple.
