Zero Waste Flowers

Floristry is an industry that celebrates the beauty of nature. Unfortunately, it also produces excessive amounts of waste which means it is not usually a business that is kind to our environment. As part of European Waste Reduction week we wanted to show other fellow florists in the business that it does not need to be that way and there are many ways that you can be zero waste and make your business more sustainable.

Composting for Zero Waste Floristry

Flowers, leaves, trimmings can all be composted. So for Flower shops or for any consumer who buys flowers regularly make sure you pot your flowers in the organic bag or your composting bin. This allows for the homes of our clients to be zero waste too.

The Malta Florist is aiming for #zerowastefloristry shop

We do this by avoiding single-use plastics. All our packaging is sustainable – so we will either use paper that uses natural ink or plain paper or else jute which is made from hemp. This makes it easy for our clients to recycle all packaging of our bouquets – either by placing it in a grey bag or keeping it and reusing it in the home.

When it comes to flower arrangements we encourage our customers to chose reusable vessels such as ceramic or baskets. Ceramic pots or glass vases allow us to design flowers directly in the vessel itself thereby eliminating the need for floral foam.

So when purchasing your flowers from your local florist ask them about the policy of the company about being more environmentally friendly and support florists who already actively take a role in making their company more environmentally friendly.
